Camping and Canoeing in Sweden (3)
Since we lost a day out on the lake due to the bad weather in day 2 we did not explore as much of the area in this inter-connected lake system as we had hoped but it was still a very nice tour. We ventured a little further a way from the Canoe center (where we had to return the canoe the following day) but headed back in the direction we came from after lunch. The water was much calmer and it was much more enjoyable rowing this day.
We found a really fantastic spot for our last day, one that had obviously become a well used camping area, I mean that in a good way. Rocks set up for a nice fire, a perfect place to pull in the canoe and swim (although it was a bit chilly), and fantastic view to take in while eating dinner.
The afternoon involved blueberry picking and napping, no phones, no computers, no cars, perfect! The sunset was not as spectacular but still pretty nice.
Its always hard to take pictures together when you don't have anyone to ask to help, but this was the last one we took together from the tour.
We considered not putting the shelter on the tent that last night as it was such a nice day, but thankfully in the end decided to as it rained in the early morning. We had an early breakfast amidst a light shower, but had enough pine trees covering us that it was no bother. Unfortunately, we had to get out in the rain and into the canoe to get back to the canoe center in time to head back to Denmark. We had rain gear, and so it was ok. The canoe center also had a nice facility with hot showers for customers, just what we needed! And then a nice hot cup of coffee in front of a crackling fire place while we ate our lunch. Not a bad set up despite the gloomy weather!
As the last day was so rainy, and unfortunately, my camera started running out of juice, we didn't get many pictures while IN the canoe, so I just have this one of Morten and none of me :-( ...but rest assured I was working hard - and by the end of the tour my stroke got better!
After lunch we packed the car and got ready to go. I was a little worried that we might not be able to get the little Fiat Punto out with all the rain, and subsequent mud. On the other hand I didn't worry too much, since one of the other groups that returned a canoe when we did seemed to be some ex-military guys from England. One of them was about the same size as the car, one of those all-muscle-no-neck guys, so we were safe if we needed so muscle to get out!
It worked out ok though and although the drive back was long, it ended nicely at Morten's parents house with some falafel sandwiches and some fresh picked berries from his mom's garden :-)
