Carys in Copes (3) - Bakken & Dyrehaven
On the Sunday that Carys was here we took the S-train to Klampenborg station to play around a Bakken (an old style amusement park) and walk around Dyrehaven (Deer Park). Bakken is a reminder of the old days in many ways. The park has all the dressing of modernity, teenagers who THINK they are cool, visitors with headscarves, bad modern fashion, and plenty of beer and high fat snacks - but despite all that to me Bakken always seems like a step back in time. Bakken and the adjacent Deer Park are located about 8 miles north of Copenhagen. The area originally became popular (according to wikipedia) due to a natural spring in the area that people flocked to in the 1580s as the water quality was low in Copenhagen at that time. Due to the large number of people going there performers and other entertainers began to show up there too to make some extra money. This was the beginning of the amusement park.
In the mid-1600s, however, the area was closed to the public for about a hundred years as the area was made into royal hunting ground for the king. The area was re-opened to the public in the 1750s and the amusement park made the symbol of the park a clown called Pjerrot, a performer from the earlier years of the area's popularity. The roller coaster we rode called Rutschbanen has been operating since 1932, crazy! Fortunately the exciting ride was also safe! (Photo from wikipedia Bakken page)

There are also lots of games one can play at Bakken, like at county fairs and parks in the US - shooting stuff, hitting stuff etc. Here is a pic of Carys after getting a pretty impressive score at one of the shooting games...
This is Morten and I after a game where he smashed some plates with a baseball AND won me a prize (that green thing he is holding!).
As mentioned above the area around the amusement park is called Deer park, and we saw a lot of deer that day even an albino! I thought this was quite amazing but apparently there are a lot of albinos in the local deer population and they have to be culled (shot) or there will be too many of them breeding and get to be too high a percentage of the population...But this one sure is pretty.
