Kamakura's Big Buddha and Hase Temple

A trip to Kamakura would not be complete without a visit to the Daibutsu (literally Great or Big Buddha) so we took the old style Enoden train from downtown Kamakura

Daibutsu is a statue of the Amida Buddha and 13.35 meters in height and made out of bronze. It is the second largest Buddha in all of Japan. Daibutsu was made in 1252. Here you can see how giant it is.

The calm hands of the Daibutsu amidst zazen (sitting meditation).

We also went to Hase-dera (Hase temple) which is a top a hill with a great view of the beach at Kamakura and Enoshima a small island near by.

Everything was blooming at Hase-dera that day.

I really liked the combination of flowers, shadows, and the statue of this pic so thought I'd share....
