Art and Oddness - Budapest (6)

As I have mentioned in some of the earlier posts there is a great appreciation for art in Budapest and this is very evident in the architecture of many of the buildings (many of them churches) in this beautiful city. These photos don't really need explanation but are included just to give you a sense of the different styles you see as you wonder around...

Here is a photo of the main market building..

This is the roof of Matthias Church, we arrived after open hours to visit inside and much of the outside was under restoration but look at this roof!

The outline of this building in the late afternoon really shows the detail work of some of the architecture in Budapest.

One odd element among the the beautiful architecture in Budapest is Vajdahunyad Castle located near the center of the city.

The castle was actually originally made of cardboard for the millenial exposition of Hungary in 1896. The building is a copy of a castle in Transylvania, as well as, a mish-mash of different architectural styles, as you might be able to notice in the picture. Inside the castle grounds is also a statue of Anonymous or, more accurately, a man who referred to himself as "the anonymous notary of king Bela" and writer of an early record of Hungarian history around 1200.

Lastly, I thought this photo was interesting. Cy noticed this odd angel/ghost figure on a residential building in Pest...sense of humor or scary?
