Copenhagen & the Climate Conference Carnival (4)
As mentioned in the previous post, Forest Day 3 was sponsored by the Danish Environment Ministry and focused on the role of forests in climate change mitigation and adaptation. This event was held on Sunday the 13th. On Monday there was a follow-up study field trip opportunity provided by the Danish Forest and Nature Agency.
Morten worked overtime to take the day off to go with me and we had a great day. There were 3 trip options, we chose the one about visiting and learning about Danish National Parks. Although we had been to the area for the field trip several times it was interesting to go there with representatives of the Danish Forest and Nature Agency and hear about the way they describe the public involvement process in the formation of national parks over the last few years. This was relevant for me as I met several members at the agency on the trip and I aim to engage with several agency staff as part of my PhD research.
One stop took us to a picnic area in the middle of what will soon become a national park north of Copenhagen (or so it is hoped). It was a crisp day with snow falling intermittantly. Although it was really too cold in the minds of several Ethiopians participating on the field trip, I thought it was fun! (Although I was very happy to have the warm heated bus close by :-).
While at this site the 2 biologists leading our trip explained about the area the park is expected to encompass.
We then had (a VERY meaty) lunch in a building that used to be a monastery. That building is an old brick one, but there were also several old fashioned farm buildings on the property like this one behind me here.
The day ended with a tour and reception at Kronborg Castle, which I will discuss in the next post....
