Fall Forest Trips
As a way to balance busy city livin' in Copenhagen Morten and I try to get out to the forest, ideally once on the weekend, to relax and get refreshed. In this way Copenhagen reminds me a little of San Francisco. Like SF Copenhagen has some nice sized city parks but there are also quite a few large nature areas to explore within a 30-45 minute bike ride (or even shorter train ride) from the city.
One very big nature area that I have been to on course fieldtrips and with Morten is GribSkov (Grib Forest). What is nice about GribSkov is that it is also not far from where Morten's parents live, so a few weeks ago we took our bikes on the train and had lunch with his parents and then went off on a bike ride to GribSkov. We stopped near GribSø (Grib Lake) for a while to take a break and enjoy the crisp autumn feel of the forest and lake. I liked the light in this photo.
This one is just a good one of Morten and I on that day....
...before I got too tired after taking what seemed to be the longest and most convoluted route possible to get to the train station to start heading home. We kept getting on paths that brought us to the track and closer to the station but it took an awful long time to find a path to actually get us TO the station...what I thought would take 10 minutes was more like 30 minutes! :-(
Last weekend we again went north of the city to Sorgenfri (pronouced Sornfree), which always make me think of "Sorrrn free as free as the wind blows, as free as the grass grows..." you know the song, but it really starts with "Born free..". Anyway there is a lake in the area with a lot of wetland around it. The forest agency however has made paths through the wet area though so you can walk around. Probably costs a fortunte to keep the path from washing away, but we enjoyed it.
Some fall colors were yet brilliant (though most trees are entirely bare now after a week of rain) as you can see here....
It was a rather chilly day but nice to get a walk in the quiet crisp fresh air before heading back into the chaos of the city :-)
